1)Place only dark land where you wish the DT to start.
Then place starting positions only.

The game will tell you that player 1 "must" be "human".

I actually did this before without realizing it. You actually create a "New Combination" twice. There must be nothing but flags the first time. Then the second time "POPS" the DT into Human status. Sorry for any confusion.

Multiview re-kindled my interest in playing as the Dark Tribe. So this morning I started bashing away using the scant knowledge I have on the subject and came up with a playable map. Here's what I did for any of you that wish to give it a try.

Okay ! So as you don't put a ton of effort into something that doesn't work. Just create a nice big egg shaped piece of grassland. Go to "map settings", and set the map as "type A", Move the red flag to one end. Leave it set as Romans. Place player two as DT and place their flag at the other end. Add dark land, Temple and a few farms, and some Dark Tribe. Also place a Roman tower and a few soldiers, Give them a little room to breathe between them just for testing purposes.
Save the map and give it a name. I named mine "DT_Test". Ok now here's where I sorted things out with info from Enze that I didn't understand before. Go to player settings and click "new combination" Set the DT as player 1, team 1, add player 2 and set them as Romans , then free selection, using the settings near the bottom, and "team 2."
Now switch back to "combination 1, and delete it. The game will now recognize the second combination you set. now re-place the start positions. If things went right, the red flag will go where the blue flag was before, and vice versa.
Now save, and export. my map exported, and I cruised over and trounced the Romans. Hopefully, If I haven't missed something here. It will work for you to.

Here are a few things I determined. Some I knew from previous research, Some I didn't.
Playing as the DT:
1. You can't recruit soldiers, and they aren't recruited automatically for you. What you place, is what you have for the whole scenario.
2. You can't place "any" farms or buildings as the DT. You will crash the game if you do.
3. You do produce mana. In a normal DT game this is used to produce your units. In a DT Control game, I think it is only used by the Shaman to convert mushroom polishers.
4. You can put your Dark Gardeners to work.
5. You can have your Shaman capture Mushroom polishers.
6. The other races will not attack your Temple or farms.
Therefore, for a conflict map the Temple must be in the path of patrols, the DT must be the aggressors, or they must be set to survive a set amount of obstacles. Like a Gauntlet situation while returning home to their Temple.
This really limits the possibilities, as the computer will only recognize the total annihilation of the DT's opponent as a win I think. But I think even with the restrictions, there's still a few fun possibilities. I intend to experiment a bit more. So expect to see something from me in the near future.
