How To Register and Play Online / Serial Numbers

This is about registering the game and serial numbers:
Please read this carefully, as it should answer all your questions. Basically there are 5 steps

1) In order to play an online game you first need to register the serial number that came with your game. This is usually found on the cover of your manual, on the CD case, in the space under the CD, or on the back of the paper insert of the DVD case. It is five groups of four numbers, in the form 1234-5678-9009-8765-4321
2) If you have found your serial number you can now go on to step 3. If you don't have a serial number, but have a legal copy of the game and proof of purchase, then contact you local branch of UBI, according to these instructions

If you have downloaded the game from the net illegally through kazza or similar then give up here - key generator programs wont give you a serial number valid for online play, and since each serial number can be used only once you can't get one from anyone in chat.
If you bought the game through a try before you buy online deal, get a refund! You don't get a valid serial number, and the game wont update.
3) When you have the serial number, open the Blue Byte Game Channel and go to lobby on the top left and select Settlers IV. When you enter chat, you should have four tabs top left, Home/News/Forum/Register. Click on the register tab and scroll down the typing above chat until you see a drop down box saying Battle Isle Dark Space. Change this to Settlers IV and press submit. In the same box, enter your serial number; with dashes, and press submit again. If all goes well you will be told that your registration was successful. If you are told there is a problem, then contact UBI as above. If you close chat by clicking the X top right and then come back into chat, the register tab will have become the play tab. When you return, if the lobby offers you an update, accept it.
4) If you don't have the latest update then usually the lobby will offer it to you, and you need to accept. If it doesn't, then go to the Settlers 4 homepage and scroll down until you can click on UPDATES on the left. Click on the one you need- the big 12.5 meg one unless you have the Trojan Expansion disc. Save it to your s4 main folder, then when the download is finished double click on the file to execute it. You should get a message that your Settlers4 has updated successfully. Leave chat and return once you have the patch.
5) At last you can play! If you click the play tab you should see a list of games. Double click on an open game to join it, or, to create your own, click on the full circle at the top.
